Rent-A-Lan Network Tools (or RAL NT) is self-developed network management software. It is specially developed for usage in temporary networks. RAL NT has several useful features, these are described here below.

Auto-configuration
For usage on events, network switches will receive a specific configuration which is relevant to the event. The auto-configuration feature is responsible for consistent configurations for all switches.

Hostmonitor
The hostmonitor monitors if all switches are still up. The hostmonitor can detect possible network problems in very small period of time. The hostmonitor has a PDA-frontend and a map-frontend.

Auto-discoveryThis feature scans the network for new switches or network devices. If new devices are found, these devices will automatically be monitorred by the hostmonitor and new statistics are generated.

Network topology
RAL NT can detect the active network topology. A network topology describes the relations between network devices, which switch is connected to which switch and on what switchports.

IP / mac trace
By using the detected network topology, IP or macaddresses can be traced within the network. When a certain IP or macaddress causes a problem, this feature can trace the address very quickly on a switchport-basis.

Statistics
For every switchport within the network, several statistics can be viewed.

Detection unwanted network devices
In temporary networks it is possible users connect networks devices to the network that are not managed by the organization. Certain devices ussually are (managed or unmanaged) switches or accesspoints which can cause possible network problems. This feature can detect and trace these devices.

Syslog
All network devices report to RAL NT. These devices for example report usage of bad network cables or network cards or can detect excessive broadcasts.
